Here’s the Golden Rule for working out with a partner: They should have the same level of commitment and discipline that you have. Otherwise they’ll drag you down like the Dementors in Harry Potter!
Too late with that advice? You already work out with a pal who slows you down, or, worse yet, temps you to cut the workouts short or skip them altogether?
Here’s what you do: Schedule the workout, rain or shine, partner or no partner. If they want to join you, let them know what you’ll be doing and how hard you plan to hit it. Then tell them they’re welcome to join you and work out at their own pace. That way you’re accountable to yourself and give them a dignified option to “pass”. Either way you’ll get the workout in yourself, and, most likely, inspire them to do the same.
